Curriculum program

 

Bentleigh West Primary School provides a well balanced curriculum where the focus is to increase fundamental knowledge and skills in domain specific areas that provide the catalyst for higher level thinking and creativity, as students become increasingly proficient.

The development of Literacy and Numeracy knowledge and skills across all year levels is a priority as they form the basis of academic success.

 

Physical Education forms an important part of the program and is taken by a specialist teacher. Students also experience inter school sport and other related programs.

Our Language Other Than English (LOTE) - Italian is taught from Prep to Year 6 by a qualified LOTE teacher.

 

Bentleigh West Primary School has a strong commitment to the Arts. Visual Arts  and Media Arts  are taken by a specialist teachers.  All students engage in the Arts, Prep – Grade 6, providing them with the opportunity to learn more ways to create, imagine and learn, using different mediums and digital tools. Students learn about drawing, painting, colour use, photography, graphic design, animation and video production, using the latest technology and software.

 

Students have the option to enrol in a wide variety of out-sourced instrumental programs. This is a user-pay program. Students are given opportunity to extend their musical talents and interests through joining our school band and choir. BWPS also runs a whole school production bi-annually for students to experience more of the performing arts.

 

Humanities, Science and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) have a strong focus throughout the school.

 

Outdoor classrooms and resources also enhance learning for students: amphitheatre, hard courts, cricket nets, long-jump pit, artificial turf, large irrigated oval, walking track, fitness centre, junior and senior adventure playgrounds, wetlands area, chickens, vegetable gardens, author’s avenue, succulent garden, sensory garden, water tanks, wind turbine and a junior investigation area.
